Prospective Nannies – Ref’s and Security Checks (Part 1)

Did your Nanny come recommended? Did you find her through an agency or via the Internet? Whichever way you located your present Nanny she came with references. How thoroughly would you check those references? And what if the references only tell half the story?
Sometimes, although this is rare, Nannies have their friends provide references. In light of this employers should definitely request a landline number and a possible meeting with a new Nanny’s previous employers preferably in their homes. Face to face enquiry and an insistence upon landlines will effectively deter a bogus reference. Here are some references to ask for:
1) Personal References: A new Nanny should provide at least one personal reference. Find out from the Nanny her relationship to each individual. Listen carefully to how the reference responds to your questions. Some questions to ask are listed below.
