MIRI: Childcare educators must remember that they are no longer “nannies”
but a special category of people who play an important role in shaping the
young minds of the nation.

RIGHT ACTION: Lee posing with participants of the Food Preparation Workshop.
Assistant Minister of Communication Datuk Lee Kim Shin said early childhood
education had been viewed as something very important because it prepared
very young children for formal education.
“You have now assumed a responsibility well beyond that of a nanny, who only
provides childcare nursing in general,” he said at a ‘Food Preparation Workshop’
organised by the Association of Registered Childcare Providers in Miri at Dynasty
Hotel yesterday.
Lee stressed that pre-school education not only taught children basic reading,
listening and writing skills but also the concept of socialising and personality
development.
Because of its great importance for growing-up children Lee said the related
education modules must be designed properly and in a holistic manner.
“Early education forms the foundation of one’s education life, so we should
thread with care,” he said, adding that creative and innovative elements
should be incorporated into the learning environment.
On the workshop, he gave his thumbs up to the association for organising
it as children need nutritional food.
